Val Wheeler is chairman of the Irvine Company Office Properties. As chairman of Office Properties, Mr. Wheeler is responsible for all day-to-day aspects of the Irvine Company’s large and growing portfolio of office properties in Orange County, San Diego, West Los Angeles and Silicon Valley, including leasing, operations, marketing and finance functions. As the company continues its steady expansion of its portfolio -- through both acquisitions and renewed construction activities -- Mr. Wheeler and his team are placing special focus on leasing programs and integrating the new properties into the overall portfolio.
Mr. Wheeler joined the company in July 2003 as senior vice president, Asset Management, Office Properties. In this role, he developed, advised and consulted with the division president on the annual and long-range strategies for the company’s office portfolio as well as directed office acquisitions.
Mr. Wheeler has more than 30 years of experience in the development, acquisition, management and disposition of office properties.
Before joining the Irvine Company, he was a partner at Gryphon Realty Advisors, a Chicago-based partnership that acquired commercial real estate, namely office and apartment properties.
From 1998 to 2000, Mr. Wheeler was senior vice president and chief executive for Boston-based Beacon Capital Partners’ Midwest offices in Chicago. From 1997 to 1998, he was senior vice president and chief executive with Beacon Properties Corporation’s Midwest offices in Chicago. From 1989 to 1996, Mr. Wheeler held several executive positions with Equity Office Holdings, L.L.C., including president and chief operating officer.
Mr. Wheeler is a member of the Urban Land Institute. He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor’s degree in education/political science.
