The Newport Coast is an extraordinary place. By any measure, it is one of the most stunning stretches of California's fabled coastline. In addition, just offshore from your community lies an "Area of Special Biological Significance," one of only 34 areas so designated in the entire state.

As a resident of Crystal Cove, you play a key role in helping maintain offshore water quality. As you'll discover as you read the following pages, doing so requires a series of simple, ongoing steps, from not over-irrigating your yard to regularly checking your vehicle for oil leaks.

Maintaining offshore water quality requires a comprehensive series of measures that are being carried out through three main approaches. Though separate, all three were developed to work together to maintain water quality in the Area of Special Biological Significance. The three approaches are discussed in more detail on the following pages. They are:
