Will you choose to stroll, hike, jog, or bicycle? When you live in one of the villages on The Irvine Ranch, a remarkable network of trails is yours every day!
“Research studies by the National Association of Home Builders, identify that trails are the top amenity homeshoppers desire in new communities,” said Suzanne Maddalon, senior director of marketing and research for Irvine Community Development Company LLC, an affiliate of The Irvine Company LLC. “In the City of Irvine, easy access to trails and natural beauty has been an essential part of community planning for more than 40 years.”
The vast trail system throughout the City of Irvine is part of the permanently preserved land on The Irvine Ranch, which encompasses more than 50 percent of the ranch’s total 93,000 acres. 37,000 acres of this pristine land, extending from Crystal Cove to the foothills of Saddleback Mountain, is the nation’s newest National Natural Landmark.
“The trail system is designed to help residents make connections of all types – with each other, with their community amenities, and with all the naturally scenic places and spaces that are woven in and around the different villages on The Irvine Ranch,” Maddalon said. “Also, The Mountains to Sea Trail is a National Recreation Trail, the first Orange County trail to earn this distinction in 30 years. With trails of all shapes, sizes and terrain, this trail system offers something for everyone.”
The 30-mile-long Mountains to Sea Trail, which reaches from Irvine Regional Park to the Back Bay in Newport Beach, is perfect for those looking for a solid workout. While the short, flat stretches of the Venta Spur Trail, a former railroad right-of-way that runs about one and one-half miles in the heart of Irvine, feels like a botanical garden, Woodbury and Woodbury East, both offer access to the Jeffrey Open Space Trail, which is located along Jeffrey Road between Portola Parkway and the I-5 Freeway.
A natural passageway that strategically connects the northern and southern open spaces within Irvine, the Jeffrey Open Space Trail is a 117-acre, 325-foot-wide public trail which passes through grassy meadows, stands of shade trees and picnic areas on its way to many destinations of unrivaled beauty and adventure. Eventually, the Jeffrey Open Space Trail will connect with the proposed 70-acre Gateway Park.
Noted Maddalon: “With all these wonderful trails and pathways for their enjoyment, residents of Irvine enjoy virtually endless opportunities for exploration and discovery. If you’re looking for a place where you can be out the front door and into the ‘wild’ in just a few minutes, then The Irvine Ranch is the place for you!”
