25-Year Hotelier To Play Leading Role in Rebranding, Reinvestment, Community Involvement
IRVINE, Calif. (Nov. 26, 2013) — Irvine Company Resort Properties today announced the appointment of J.D. Shafer as general manager of Hotel Irvine Jamboree Center, a new independent lifestyle hotel for business, social and leisure guests in the heart of Southern California.
Shafer, a 25-year hotelier known for his community involvement and career experience at leading hotel brands in Orange and Los Angeles Counties, assumes responsibility of Hotel Irvine on Dec. 1. Shafer will play a leading role in a rebranding and reinvestment initiative that gets under way next week with the hotel’s debut and continues throughout 2014.
“We’re delighted to welcome J.D. to our leadership team and look forward to a successful first year reinventing an Irvine landmark,” said Ralph Grippo, president of Irvine Company Resort Properties. “J.D. has a passion for serving guests, groups and the community, making him the right leader to launch Irvine’s premier lifestyle hotel.”
Shafer will oversee the hotel’s integration into the lifestyle properties collection of Irvine Company Resort Properties, which also includes The Resort at Pelican Hill, Island Hotel Newport Beach, Oak Creek Golf Club and marinas in Newport Beach and Northern California.
At Hotel Irvine, Shafer is assembling a management team that will work hand-in-hand with the hotel’s long-standing staff, some of whom have been with the property for 25 years. Shafer and his team will be playing a leading role in a reinvestment focused on guest rooms, meeting spaces – including the hotel’s 14,700-square-foot ballroom which is the largest in Irvine – as well as the lobby, lounge, cafe, restaurant and outdoor social areas.
Upon completion, guests will experience a modern, inviting first floor with interactive, communal spaces for conducting business, socializing or enjoying a drink or meal. As part of the reinvestment initiative, the hotel’s outdoor area is being transformed into an amazing social oasis for events or relaxation centered around the sparkling pool terrace with outdoor fireplace. 6ix Park Grill, the hotel’s restaurant offering a reinvented California cuisine, is being seamlessly integrated with the hotels outdoor area and pool, setting the stage for great dining experiences complemented by the area’s coastal climate.
“I’m excited to join Hotel Irvine at such an exciting time,” Shafer said. “The property has a long and rich history in the community as a place for business and social events. I’m looking forward to bringing our vision for Hotel Irvine to life and building on the success already achieved with business and leisure travelers.”
Later this month, Shafer will be honored by the Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce as Business Person of the Year. He is a past chair and of the Huntington Beach Conference & Visitors Bureau, past executive board member with the Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce and current board member with the Orange County Tourism Council.
