The Irvine Company today announced that it has become the largest owner-operator of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified office workplaces in California, according to the Washington, D.C.-based U.S. Green Building Council.
Irvine Company Office Properties owns and operates more than 50 LEED-certified properties spanning nearly 15 million square feet of efficient, high-performance workspace in Orange, San Diego and Los Angeles counties as well as Silicon Valley. All of the company’s high-rise office buildings now are LEED certified.
“Our goal is to provide the highest quality workplaces for our customers, and sustainable operations are at the core of our commitment,” said Doug Holte, president of Irvine Company Office Properties. “We are honored to be recognized by USGBC through LEED certification. Our building certifications were made possible with the help of our customers and through a high level of teamwork between our building operations and maintenance staff. We are pleased that our customers can share in the operational benefits that come from sustainable buildings, including providing environmentally healthier workplaces for their employees to help promote job satisfaction and productivity.”
Irvine Company became California’s leading LEED workspace provider with the recent certification of a large number of properties in the LEED Volume Program, which streamlines the certification process for multiple buildings of a similar type.
“Irvine Company has exhibited an exemplary commitment to transforming the real estate market through the LEED green building program,” said Rick Fedrizzi, president, CEO and founding chair of the U.S. Green Building Council. “We congratulate Irvine Company for its leadership in building a healthier, more sustainable future.”
The Irvine Company’s LEED certifications are in the Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance category, which scores workplaces on water and energy efficiency, materials and resource management, indoor environmental practices, site management and other criteria. The company also is pursuing LEED certification for high-performance workspaces it is building or planning in Silicon Valley, Orange County and San Diego.
Attaining LEED certification is part of the Irvine Company’s long-standing commitment to thoughtful stewardship and a determination to leave a positive legacy for future generations. For more than a century, Irvine Company has been at the forefront of what has come to be known as green design, construction and operation.
Sustainable practices are part of everyday operations at Irvine Company office properties, including energy-efficient heating, ventilation, air condition and lighting, high-efficiency plumbing fixtures and landscape irrigation, recycling, green cleaning and indoor air quality management.
