Irvine-based LA Fitness, operators of one of the largest networks of sports clubs in Southern California, will open a new 50,000 square foot facility at The Crossroads shopping center in Irvine in Spring 2011. The club will be housed in new building soon to be under construction on the former site of a Mervyn’s department store at the corner of Culver Drive and Barranca Parkway.
“We’re excited to be adding The Crossroads location, in the heart of Irvine, to our two existing Irvine clubs,” said Louis Welch, President and CEO of LA Fitness.
The new state-of-the-art sports club expects to employ 50 people ranging from part-time group fitness instructors to full-time club staff. The club will feature full court basketball, three racquetball courts, a 25 yard four lane lap pool, a whirlpool spa and spacious locker rooms with showers and saunas, as well as a separate group exercise studio and a separate indoor cycling room. These amenities will complement a full array of equipment, including over 80 pieces of the latest generation cardio equipment with individual viewing screens, selectorized circuit training, and free weight areas.
Members will be able to participate in a variety of group fitness classes seven days a week including aqua, indoor cycling, dance classes, pilates and yoga at no additional charge, and many find that they enjoy group classes not only for the fitness benefit they provide but also as a means for social connection. Personal training, league play, and babysitting services will also be available, as will a Corporate Wellness program designed to cater to companies of all sizes.
