Leading Semiconductor Company GLOBALFOUNDRIES Selects Santa Clara Gateway

GLOBALFOUNDRIES, the world’s fastest-growing semiconductor company, is bringing its U.S. corporate administrative offices and engineering operations to Santa Clara Gateway, a premier office campus being built in the heart of Silicon Valley.

The company has leased a 165,000-square-foot office building at Santa Clara Gateway, an Irvine Company development on Great America Parkway near Highway 237. GLOBALFOUNDRIES, which operates silicon wafer fabrication plants serving some of the industry’s leading chip companies, plans to relocate about 430 jobs to Santa Clara Gateway in late 2013.

“Bringing our Silicon Valley team together at Santa Clara Gateway will improve efficiency, synergies and collaboration and ultimately allow us to better serve our customers,” said Alexie Lee, Executive Vice President of Legal and Corporate Affairs for GLOBALFOUNDRIES. “This is a strong corporate address that reflects our leading role in the semiconductor industry.”

In 2012, GLOBALFOUNDRIES was named the fastest-growing semiconductor company by IC Insights Inc., an industry analyst group based in Scottsdale, Ariz. GLOBALFOUNDRIES runs silicon wafer fabrication plants in New York, Germany and Singapore and has some 13,000 employees in operations across the globe.

Santa Clara Gateway, a 911,000-square-foot, six-building campus that broke ground in April 2012, is the first commercial office space in Silicon Valley designed by famed architectural firm Pei Cobb Freed & Partners Architects LLP of New York. The first phase of Santa Clara Gateway is set to be completed in mid-2013 with the second phase set for completion in early 2014.

GLOBALFOUNDRIES’ building is in the second phase and brings the number of buildings leased at Santa Clara Gateway to three. GLOBALFOUNDRIES joins a top-tier computer company and a leading networking company at Santa Clara Gateway.

“GLOBALFOUNDRIES required a location that would enhance collaboration among its Silicon Valley team and reflect its status as a leader in the semiconductor industry,” said Andrew Goodman, regional vice president of leasing for Irvine Company Office Properties. “Santa Clara Gateway exceeded expectations on both counts.”

Santa Clara Gateway offers 30,500-square-foot floor plates with virtually column-free spans, ideal for flexible floor plans. Near operations of major technology companies and the future home of the San Francisco 49ers, Santa Clara Gateway is served by Silicon Valley Power, a municipal electric utility known for reliability and cost-effective power for businesses. Santa Clara Gateway also offers convenient access to freeways, expressways, San Jose International Airport and Valley Transportation Authority light rail stops at Old Ironsides and Great America.
