Location and Lifestyle Attracts Hawkins Family to Portola Springs

Location, lifestyle and lots of space – that’s what attracted the Hawkins family to the new Irvine Ranch® village of Portola Springs™.

“We love living in Irvine and got very excited when we first learned online about Portola Springs and all that this new village has to offer,” said Susan Hawkins. “Once we visited, we knew that this was where we wanted to raise our children. Our family will enjoy a fantastic lifestyle in Portola Springs!”

Susan recently started working on a Ph. D. in psychology. Her husband, Brad, is a religious studies professor at California State University Long Beach.

“I grew up in Northern Canada, surrounded by nature and spent lots of time outdoors,” said Brad Hawkins. “At Portola Springs, our children can experience nature and the outdoors, exploring all the open space, hiking and biking paths only moments from home. That was a big part of our decision to move to Portola Springs – you can have an active outdoors lifestyle while still being within easy reach of all the urban advantages, including shopping, dining and entertainment.”

As residents of California Pacific Homes’ Vientos neighborhood in Portola Springs, the Hawkins’ and their children, Donovan, 13, Aidan, 4, and Rhiannon, 14 months, are delighted to live close to the pools, play areas, clubhouse, and other facilities of Portola Springs’ new Silverado Park. They also anticipate the convenience of a nearby elementary school site, one of two proposed for the new village. The schools will be part of the outstanding Irvine Unified School District.

“Education is a top priority for us, and the Irvine schools are first-rate,” said Susan. “All of the amenities planned for Portola Springs are at the top of the chart. We’ve found the right combination of location, ambiance and amenities to suit our family’s needs. That’s the long-term value of Portola Springs. Not surprisingly, we have a number of friends who are thinking of buying a home here, too.”

Brad Added: “Commuting is easy from Portola Springs. You can jump on the I-5 Freeway or the 241 Toll Road or take Sand Canyon to the I-405. So, the village feels somewhat rural and out-of-the-way, but it’s convenient to everything.”

Set against the rugged beauty of Lomas Ridge and with native habitat on all sides, Portola Springs is a one-of-a-kind environment within The Irvine Ranch. The village is designed to include more than 20 miles of hiking and bicycling trails, offering residents a wonderful diversity of areas to discover and explore. One trail winds up to Lomas Ridge, while others meet up with the Jeffrey Open Space Trail, the key link between The Irvine Ranch’s upper and lower open spaces.

A total of 18 neighborhood parks are planned for Portola Springs, including seven with swimming pools. Six parks already have opened, highlighted by the pool parks of Silverado and Lomas Valley.

Silverado Park features a junior Olympic-sized swimming pool, wading pool, spa, poolside cabanas, shade structures, tennis courts, basketball court, open turf area, community room, and picnic area with barbecues.

Facilities at Lomas Valley Park include a junior Olympic-sized swimming pool, children’s wading pool, bubbling spa, poolside cabanas, shade structures, half basketball court, open play turf, play structures designed for ages 5 through 12, barbecue/picnic area, community room, and multipurpose room.

Portola Springs also is envisioned with the retail and dining convenience of Portola Springs Plaza as well as a 25-acre community park with lighted athletic fields, tot lots, picnic areas, basketball and tennis courts, and an 18,000-square-foot multipurpose building.

For outdoor lovers of all ages who want to experience nature just steps from their front door, Portola Springs offers an incredible variety of residential opportunities. Plans call for up to 4,500 homes in five distinctive enclaves.
