Portola Springs Unveils Charity Playhouse

The family-oriented village of Portola Springs® in Irvine was the site for the recent unveiling of a super-sized baseball-themed playhouse, created by Taylor Woodrow Homes.

Designed as a miniature “Angels Press Box,” the playhouse served as the homebuilder’s entry in the 2007 HomeAid Orange County Project Playhouse fundraiser. Donated as this year’s Opportunity Prize, the playhouse will be raffled off during the Annual Project Playhouse Auction at Fashion Island® in Newport Beach on October 13th. Auction proceeds and money raised from ticket sales for the Opportunity Prize drawing will help HomeAid provide transitional housing for the homeless in Orange County.

“Project Playhouse is a wonderful way for Orange County’s housing industry to give back to the community,” said Suzanne Maddalon, senior director of marketing and research for Irvine Community Development Company, an affiliate of The Irvine Company LLC. “It was an exciting time for Portola Springs homeshoppers to be on hand for the public unveiling of Taylor Woodrow Homes’ delightful playhouse.”

The playhouse was constructed and then unveiled last month to Portola Springs residents and homeshoppers alike at the village’s Los Arboles neighborhood by Taylor Woodrow Homes. The playhouse is currently on display inside Gate Four at Angel Stadium, where it will remain until September 24th when it is moved to prepare for the Playhouse Auction in October.

Complete with team décor donated by the Angels Baseball Foundation, the fully operational baseball announcer’s booth – one of the most interactive playhouses created in the 16-year history of Project Playhouse – features advanced audio and video technology to allow children to call games “live” and view themselves on a 17-inch plasma TV screen. Audio options available at the touch of a button include a traditional rendition of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” and such well-known announcer phrases as “Play Ball,” “Strike One” and “What a Game!”
