Short Stroll From The Arts And Shopping Of South Coast Metro, The Enclave Apartment Homes Welcomes First Residents

The Enclave at South Coast, the city’s first new significant rental community in 15 years, opened today a short stroll from South Coast Plaza, the Orange County Performing Arts Center and the South Coast Repertory.

It is the first apartment community in Orange County The Irvine Company has developed off the boundaries of the historic Irvine Ranch.

“This is a marriage of two outstanding brands – South Coast Metro and our apartment communities,” said Max Gardner, President, The Irvine Company Apartment Communities. “Our communities feature best-in-class design, amenities, interior finishes, landscaping and customer service in a way that adds up to a quality of life and ‘community feel’ that Costa Mesa has yet to experience. Those interested in the convenient, urban lifestyle that South Coast Metro offers can now live blocks away in a new home with outstanding community amenities.”

Steven and Quynh-Thi Vidal will be among the first residents to live at The Enclave when they move in to a two-bedroom home on Saturday.

“One of the biggest draws for us was the location,” said Steven, who works at a office “so close to The Enclave that I can see it.”

Added Quynh-Thi, who works for Meguiar’s, Inc., less than a mile away: “Even though we don’t live there yet, it feels like home – especially with all the amenities that are available to us. The nearby restaurants, theaters and South Coast Plaza are a plus.”

Gardner said The Irvine Company has watched with interest the maturation of the South Coast Metro area, and believes it’s an outstanding example of smart growth.

“There’s not just one reason but dozens for us to choose this prime piece of real estate as our first ‘off-ranch’ project in Orange County,” Gardner said. “It’s steps from South Coast Plaza, the Orange County Performing Arts Center, South Coast Repertory and Segerstrom Hall. It is moments away from outstanding restaurants, and thousands of jobs.”

The convenience to the I-405 and SR-55 freeways, as well as the 73 toll road, is an added bonus, Gardner said.

In many ways, Gardner added, The Enclave at South Coast offers many of the attributes of one of the company’s most successful new communities, The Village at Irvine Spectrum Center. The Village is also located across the street from thousands of jobs and one of the county’s most vibrant and energetic outdoor regional shopping centers.

Costa Mesa Mayor Eric Bever said The Enclave’s opening marks an important step in South Coast Metro’s evolution. The 890 homes provide much needed, high-quality housing walking distance from many of the city’s most prominent employers, restaurants, arts venues and retail.

“The Irvine Company has earned a deserved reputation for planning some of the best communities in the nation, and they have transformed this unique site into one of the most attractive rental communities our city has ever seen,” he said. “We welcome this fine addition to our city.”

The Irvine Company is known throughout the apartment industry for its high standards in owning and operating architecturally-compelling communities with popular fitness centers, resort-like pool areas and community events that bring neighbors together. Some residents describe the feel as the “ahh factor.” Others say: “It feels like you’re home.”

The 40-acre site will include 46 three-story buildings at completion – about 20 of them will be smoke-free — with a design theme incorporating elements of traditional California architecture. The elements include landscaped courtyards and boulevard streets.

Each of the 890 units will feature full-size whirlpool washers and dryers, refrigerators with ice makers, range and microwave ovens, white kitchen and bathroom cabinets, granite countertops, high efficiency central heat and air conditioning, walk-in closets, garages – with direct access on selected floor plans, high speed Internet and advanced telecommunications wiring system. There are more than 20 floor plans, ranging from studios to two-bedroom homes. Some offer two-tone paint and hardwood style floors. Rents range from the mid-$1,500s to the mid-$2,600s.

The community will feature a series of amenities, including two resort-style, salt water swimming pools with private cabanas, three spas, two clubhouses, catering kitchen, a fitness center with strength and cardiovascular equipment with attached television screens, a movement studio, three outdoor fireplace areas, several barbecue and outdoor dining areas, a business center with computers, fax machine color printer, copier and scanner. The one-acre park has a tot-lot, half basketball court and a jogging and biking trail. The community also features and expansive outdoor movie theater, as well as an indoor theater with stadium seating.
