Smaller is better at University Center when Target opens Orange County’s first small-scale store in July

Retailer curated selection for UC Irvine’s collegiate set

IRVINE, Calif. (July 6, 2017) — Target is opening its first scaled-down location in Orange County at University Center July 23. In addition to launching more stores in urban markets, the retailer is honing in on college audiences throughout the country, fulfilling specific community needs. Located at Bridge Road and Campus Drive, University Center is the retail hub for UC Irvine.

“Target is a retail trailblazer in many regards,” said Easther Liu, chief marketing officer, Irvine Company Retail Properties.  “And it’s a coup to unveil a concept tailored precisely for UC Irvine, including its international student body and staff.”

At approximately 20,000 square feet, Target at University Center will stock a convenient cross section of items, and feature trusted services such as Target Mobile and order pickup. Expect stylish dorm and apartment essentials; fresh groceries and grab-and-go items, including sandwiches, salads, beverages, snacks and more; health, personal care and beauty products, including a multicultural assortment; portable technology products and accessories; apparel for men and women as well as merchandise from local sports teams.

Target currently operates 36 small-format campus stores—about a sixth the size of a typical Target. Additional locations throughout the country include University of Southern California and University of North Carolina.

“We’re excited to provide UC Irvine with a quick-trip shopping experience featuring an assortment that only Target can provide with our first small-format store in Orange County,” said Mark Schindele, senior vice president, Properties, Target.

Target at University Center is at 4255 Campus Drive, Suite A150, in Irvine.
