NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Nov. 10, 2014 — The Irvine Company announced today that Stifel, Nicolaus & Company, one of the nation’s premier brokerage and investment banking firms, is bringing its growing local operations to 520 Newport Center Drive, the most prestigious address in Orange County.
Stifel has leased the 15th floor of 520 Newport Center for a total of 18,000 square feet. The firm, which provides securities brokerage, investment banking and related financial services, initially will bring about 25 employees to 520 Newport Center in spring 2015.
The move will bring together financial advisers and staff from existing Stifel offices in Newport Beach and Irvine. The firm will retain its Irvine and San Juan Capistrano offices and expand at 520 Newport Center with the hiring of new financial advisers.
“This is a world-class location and a powerful recruiting tool in Stifel’s western expansion,” said John Lee, western region director for the St. Louis-based firm. “We are sending a strong statement about our commitment to this market.”
In Newport Center, Stifel is joining some of the financial industry’s top wealth managers and financial advisers, including Pimco, Pacific Life and Janus Capital. 520 Newport Center has been the center of recent global financial media attention as the new home of leading bond fund manager Bill Gross, who joined Janus Capital in September.
“The addition of Stifel alongside Pimco, Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch and Pacific Life affirms Newport Center as one of premier locations for financial services and wealth management firms in California,” said Steve Case, executive vice president of Irvine Company Office Properties. “The business lifestyle offered at Newport Center gives prestigious wealth management companies the ability to attract top talent to serve local and global markets.”

The design of 520 Newport Center draws on quality materials and attention to detail. The building’s façade includes elegant Italian travertine marble from the fabled Mariotti quarry near Rome. Optical-quality American glass neutralizes heat and glare while maximizing natural light. Floor-to-ceiling windows of 10 to 11 feet make the most of the panoramic views.
520 Newport Center is designed to achieve Gold certification under the Washington, D.C.-based U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, program.
