NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (Aug. 30, 2017) — Irvine Company announced today that THE LOT, a luxury cinema replete with sublime leather recliners, a standalone restaurant and indoor-outdoor social space, will replace Island Cinema, which will close Sept. 4. Construction on THE LOT is slated to begin after Labor Day with the curtain rising on the new concept in spring 2018.
“The Southern California lifestyle is the essence of Fashion Island, and The Lot is redefining the movies for a new era,” said Easther Liu, chief marketing officer, Irvine Company Retail Properties. “It’s a dynamic theater experience that far exceeds consumer demands.”
When Island Cinema opened in 2011 as the first luxury theater of its caliber in the Orange County market, it was a marquee moment at Fashion Island. However, much has changed in the entertainment arena since, namely the binge-watching phenomenon. If anyone can lure cinephiles from the couch, it’s THE LOT.
Equal parts movie theater and community social hub, THE LOT has two successful San Diego locations, La Jolla Village and Liberty Station, the mixed-use former Naval base in Point Loma. Both go beyond the blockbuster: Cinematic technology includes top-of-the-line audio visual while elevated in-theater dining offers fine wine, innovative cocktails and house-made desserts. Both locations feature stand-alone restaurants with a sophisticated yet approachable design, and all-day menus reflect regional fare.
Additionally, THE LOT plays host to special events with influential local partners. Take, for example, the architectural stunner in La Jolla where THE LOT teamed up with philanthropic groups and partnered with renowned Quint Gallery, showcasing rotating exhibits. By day, its mod veranda lures La Jolla’s power brokers and lunching ladies, and come evening, it’s all about date nights and family outings.
About THE LOT
The luxury lifestyle entertainment destination offers a dining, drinking and cinematic experience unlike any other with two locations in San Diego, including La Jolla and Liberty Station. Each stunning version of THE LOT features a luxury cinema with multiple auditoriums, each outfitted with the latest in comfort, audiovisual and cinematic technology; a dedicated sophisticated yet approachable restaurant, well-appointed bars spotlighting craft cocktails, beers and wines, and dedicated craft cafés serving locally roasted coffees and house-made pastries. THE LOT provides the community with a place to grab a morning coffee, enjoy a full dinner, or catch the latest Hollywood blockbuster—a place to eat, play and enjoy.
