● The 17,000-square-foot Newport Center facility will be first of its kind
● Irvine Company pursuing similar programs in Silicon Valley and San Diego
● Expected open date spring of 2016
NEWPORT BEACH, CALIF. (June 8, 2015) – The Irvine Company announced today a new concept for providing health care services, corporate wellness and fitness under one roof.
Located at 600 Newport Center Drive across the street from Fashion Island, the 17,000-square-foot facility will be operated by Irvine, Calif.-based St. Joseph Hoag Health and is scheduled to open in spring of 2016.
The facility will be divided into three areas: a medical office called the Wellness Corner; a private fitness center for Irvine Company Newport Center office customers; and The Zone, a boutique fitness training studio.
“Healthy and happy employees are more productive employees, and providing easy access to outstanding health care and lifestyle opportunities is a top priority for today’s employers,” said Steve Case, executive vice president, Irvine Company Office Properties. “This cornerstone amenity will provide immense value to our customers and their employees and promote well-being as an important component to their overall success.”
Case said Irvine Company is negotiating with top health care, including Stanford University, and fitness providers to provide similar facilities in the Silicon Valley and San Diego.
“We believe the concept has outstanding potential to help create even more sustainable living in our key markets, while enhancing the prestigious workplace experience our customers in Newport Center already enjoy,” Case said. “It also provides an exciting new retail business model for health providers to improve well-being. We constantly seek innovative new ways to enhance the lives of those we serve, whether they work in our offices, live in our apartments, shop at our retail centers or visit our resort hotels.”
The concept is an expansion of the Irvine Company and St. Joseph-Hoag Health Wellness Corner launched last year at The Village at Irvine Spectrum Center apartment community to provide medical and wellness services to residents. The partnership expanded in January to the Jamboree Center office complex in Irvine, serving employees at about 200 businesses.
St. Joseph Hoag Health first experienced measurable success with a Wellness Corner in Irvine it opened for its employees, who experienced increased productivity and a decrease in those rated high risk for chronic disease.
“We are committed to helping people when they’re ill as well as providing new and innovative services to keep our communities healthy,” said Annette Walker, executive vice president, strategic services, St. Joseph Hoag Health. “This revolutionary approach supports individuals’ physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being with evidence-based approaches, complementary products, lifestyle enhancement programs and technology that helps empower people to become good partners in their health care.”
Added Dr. Richard Afable, CEO of St. Joseph Hoag Health: “By providing these services to local employers and our communities, we will help control the cost of health care, ensure quality and help employees and their families achieve good health for a lifetime. We couldn’t be more pleased to partner with the Irvine Company in fulfilling this vision.”
New center will have many health-focused services
The Wellness Corner offers same-day appointments for primary care visits, vaccinations, prescriptions and other medical needs. Using a smart phone app, customers will be able to schedule physicals, receive expedited referrals to St. Joseph Hoag Health medical staff and access lab tests results. Other services include weight loss and nutrition programs, skin care, meditation and more. The Wellness Corner will be open to the public. Most insurance plans are accepted and walk-in appointments are available.
The Fitness Center will be available exclusively to Irvine Company office customers. It will include the latest cardio and strength training technology, an open fitness floor concept for personal training and amenities such as day storage lockers, showers and towel service.
The Zone, the boutique fitness-training studio managed by Active Sports Club, the fitness partner of St. Joseph Hoag Health, will be open to the public. It offers athletic-inspired workouts using heart-rate training technology and team-based camaraderie. Participants will train in small groups using a variety of the latest fitness equipment and techniques, including a dedicated fusion cycling studio, TRX, battle ropes, boxing and rowing (visit www.traininthezone.com to learn more).
The new concept will be located in a space formerly occupied by 24 Hour Fitness; its lease expires in August.
