Continuing its longstanding commitment to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program, Island Hotel Newport Beach invites guests, members of the local community, Fashion Island shoppers and area businesses to give to deserving children this holiday season and view the third annual confectionery lobby display, debuting Thanksgiving weekend and carrying through to the end of the holiday season.
Using more than 400 pounds of white and dark chocolate and red and green cocoa butter, 300 pounds of icing, 300 pounds of sugar, 150 pounds of fondant, 120 pounds of gingerbread and 80 pounds of candy, Island Hotel’s Executive Pastry Chef Michael Owens and his team present a 6-foot high, 2-dimensional candy holiday greeting card and an “edible” Santa and reindeer sculpture as the centerpiece of this official toy drop location. Generous donors can bring new, unwrapped toys, valued at $10 or more, to display in the hotel’s festive lobby.
Sponsorships are also available for guests and locals to “purchase real estate” from the gingerbread village. Donation amounts are $100 for A-Frames, Cabins and Shacks; $250 for Villas; $400 for Shops and Houses; and $500 for Houses at the base of the hill. The candy and chocolate display also offers property for purchase including $5,000 for Santa; $5,000 for The Resort at Pelican Hill; $3,500 for the life-size card; $3,000 for the Island Hotel; $2,500 for the reindeer; $1,500 for the train station; $1,000 for the large train, $750 for the train’s tunnel and $500 for a small train.
Donations are accepted through December 15, and all toys and proceeds go to Toys for Tots. The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve has been bringing the joy of Christmas to America’s children in need since 1947.
