Value-conscious Grocery Outlet chooses Woodbridge for its first Irvine location

IRVINE, Calif. (April 03, 2017) Irvine Company has announced that Grocery Outlet, favored for its discounted prices on brand-name grocery items and other products, will open its first Irvine store at Woodbridge Village Center.

“After a careful search for just the right grocery tenant, we’re very pleased to welcome Grocery Outlet to Woodbridge Village Center,” said Dave Moore, president of Irvine Company Retail Properties. “The new store will offer Irvine residents a convenient, value-based specialty shopping experience that makes it easy for them to purchase many of their grocery and household essentials.”

The new grocery store will be a centerpiece of the retail center’s $30-million reinvestment already underway that will upgrade the retail, dining and entertainment mix to complement longtime favorites, freshen the architecture for a coastal California feel, and create an expansive 1-acre outdoor setting for dining, relaxing and community gatherings that overlooks North Lake. The grocery store will occupy 18,500 square feet in a newly renovated building that once housed Stein Mart. The rest of the building will be occupied by the popular Focus Dance Center for the Performing Arts, which is relocating from its long-term location at University Center.

“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to open at a location as beloved by locals as Woodbridge Village Center,” said Eric Lindberg, Grocery Outlet’s Co-CEO. “As part of our major growth plans, we’re searching for communities that appreciate extreme-value grocery stores to complement their unique surroundings. Our No. 1 mission is to offer quality brand-name products at 40-70 percent less compared to traditional grocery stores.”

Since it opened in 1979, Woodbridge Village Center has been a cherished amenity for Woodbridge residents and others throughout Irvine and Orange County. The center’s reinvestment, which started last year, is expected to be completed in the second half of 2017. Other new additions include Sessions, a popular sandwich concept, and Yogurtland, known for its self-serve yogurt treats.

Grocery Outlet is tentatively slated to open September 21, 2017 and will be at 4730 Barranca Pkwy, Irvine.
