Construction is progressing on Woodbury Elementary School, the newest state-of-the-art facility in the highly regarded Irvine Unified School District. Located within The Commons, Woodbury’s 30-acre social and recreational heart, the new school is scheduled to open this fall. Woodbury children will be able to walk or ride their bikes to school via the pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly network of trails that links all the neighborhoods of Woodbury with various village amenities.
“This is an exciting time at Woodbury,” said Suzanne Maddalon, senior director of marketing and research for Irvine Community Development Company LLC, an affiliate of The Irvine Company LLC. “The pools and play areas at The Club are open, the shops, restaurants and stores at Woodbury Town Center are debuting, and soon a new school will be opening its doors.”
The K-6 Woodbury Elementary School will accommodate 700 students and utilize the latest in technology, including a computer lab with 36 computers for direct instruction and an additional 30 or more computers in each classroom wing for student use throughout the day.
Also part of the new school campus will be a media center, separate kindergarten area, multipurpose area, food service area, lunch shelter, playfields, and hardcourts. In addition to the school’s strong academic programs, students will benefit from instruction in music, art, PE, and science from specialists in these fields.
Woodbury Elementary will be a year-round, single-track school that starts its new year in July. Children will attend four approximately nine-week school sessions, separated by three week breaks in September/October, December/January and March/April. In addition, a five-week summer break begins on the same day that the district’s traditional schools let out for summer.
“Woodbury has become an incredible place to live,” said Maddalon. “And, as spring turns into summer, the advantage of Woodbury’s parks, play areas and resort-like Clubhouse will become even more pronounced!”
Central to the Woodbury lifestyle is The Club, the residents-only, resort-inspired facility that is the centerpiece for village recreation and socializing.
The Club features a Junior Olympic-sized competition pool that is home to the Woodbury Waves swim team, a resort pool and spa with cabanas and barbecues, and a lagoon pool accessed via a “beach entry” with a children’s water garden and wading pool.
