Woodbury Residents Give Block Party A New Spin At The Commons

It’s the old fashioned block party — with a twist! Residents of the award-winning Irvine village of Woodbury are connecting with each other at The Club or one of the other 13 incredible parks, gardens and squares that link homes to homes, districts to districts and help build a great sense of community!

“When people want to throw a party with their neighbors in Woodbury, they can simply walk or bike ride to any number of beautiful settings within the village,” said Kevin Chudy, general manager of the Woodbury Community Association. “All around there are special places and spaces for joining neighbors and other friends for everything from poolside barbecues to ‘sweet sixteen’ birthday parties. Come explore Woodbury today!”

Especially popular with Woodbury residents and homeshoppers alike is The Club, the resort-caliber residents-only facility that occupies approximately one-third of the village’s centrally located 30-acre Commons. The Club’s inviting resort pool features cabanas and barbecues, providing the perfect backdrop for a variety of celebrations. Additionally, The Club has a Junior Olympic-sized swimming pool with a grass seating area for spectators and a lagoon pool with “beach” entry that includes a water garden and wading pool.

“All around are an abundance of wonderful pools and poolside amenities, plus numerous other outdoor destinations throughout the community,” said Chudy. “Woodbury residents have quickly discovered their favorite Woodbury gathering spots!”

Other amenities at The Club include a lighted basketball court with gated entry, four lighted tennis courts, a sand volleyball court, sunny courtyards and other social seating areas, and an outdoor fireplace. Two multi-purpose buildings, one with a catering kitchen, provide venues where residents can host private parties.

The Commons also is the site of Woodbury Community Park, a 10-acre City of Irvine public park that includes a soccer field, two baseball diamonds, two lighted full-sized basketball courts, a tot lot, picnic tables, play areas, and a community center building staffed by city parks personnel.

Additionally, the Great Lawn is a wonderful outdoor gathering spot within The Commons and the scene of many Woodbury special events.

Residents also gather at places like Magnolia Square, an Italian-themed park that is home to many fragrant and shady magnolia trees. This popular place includes a picnic courtyard, pavilion, activity lawn, and playground.

Peppertree Square is a cottage-themed park lined with pepper trees. Amenities include a swimming pool, wading pool, spa, half basketball court, lawn play area, barbecues, and outdoor fireplace.

Colonnade Garden is a more intimate formal Italian setting, ideal for quiet picnics and lawn games. It features a colonnade, an ellipse-shaped lawn, a circular trellis with columns, and numerous cypress and stone pine trees.

“The award-winning village of Woodbury has made quite a name for itself as a place designed like no other in Orange County,” said Chudy. “The community is made up of eight distinctive residential districts that all contribute to the incredible whole, and each has one or more signature gathering centers. So whether you’re looking to host a new kind of block party or simply spend some time with your family, you’ll find many great places to go in Woodbury.”

Woodbury children now have a new place to go for education, since the Woodbury Elementary School opened its doors this month. Located at The Commons, this state-of-the-art facility is part of the highly regarded Irvine Unified School District.

Close-to-home shopping is available at Woodbury Town Center, located just down the street. A variety of shops and services includes everything from groceries, home improvement, office supplies, and chic apparel to banks, medical offices, hair and nail salons, and fitness and martial arts studios. The Woodbury Cafés is a charming open-air courtyard setting with a fountain, dining tables and a grassy play area surrounded by a wide range of restaurant choices.

Only a short drive away are the popular regional outdoor malls of Irvine Spectrum Center® and The Market Place. Both locations offer shops, restaurants, movies, and other entertainment.
