IRVINE, Calif. (Feb. 15, 2015) — Irvine Company’s portfolio of Energy Star certified office buildings once again ranks in the top ten nationally and number one in California for 2014 among all office building owners in terms of total square feet.
This was the fourth straight year Irvine Company has been ranked in the top ten nationally.
The ranking, based on an Irvine Company analysis of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Registry of Energy Star labeled buildings, represents 92office buildings, comprising 21 million gross square feet that received ENERGY STAR certification for 2014.
Energy Star certification signifies that a building performs in the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency and meets strict energy efficiency levels set by the EPA. Buildings that earn the EPA’s Energy Star certification use about 35 percent less energy than average buildings, cost 50 cents less per-square-foot to operate, have higher occupancy rates, increased asset value and lower carbon emissions.
