Fashion Island and Irvine Spectrum Center Ring in Lunar New Year
Irvine retail centers create family events for the zodiac celebration, Year of The Dog, with fan dances, photo opportunities, and yes—red envelopes. Sound the gong!
IRVINE, Calif. (Feb. 12, 2018) — Irvine Company Retail Properties is keeping the 2018 buzz going with its annual Lunar New Year events this month. In accordance with the traditional Chinese calendar, Fashion Island and Irvine Spectrum Center will be ushering in the Year of the Dog with a weekend of activities Feb. 17-18.
“Lunar New Year has become an annual rite of passage, not only in the Asian community but at Fashion Island and Irvine Spectrum Center,” said Butch Knerr, president, Irvine Company Retail Properties. “These vibrant celebrations immerse patrons of every age into the rituals of the holiday.”
Festivities kick off at Fashion Island on Saturday, Feb. 17 from 1-3 p.m, at the Neiman Marcus/Bloomingdale’s Courtyard. They continue at Irvine Spectrum Center Sunday, Feb. 18 from 1-3 p.m. with the action taking place at Giant Wheel Court.
Expect live entertainment including dancers, stilt walkers as well as face painters, and greeters handing out fortune cookies while supplies last. And the envelopes please… Coveted lucky red envelopes, symbolizing luck and good fortune, contain $2 each and will be given to the first 500 guests at both centers.
Additionally, several stores and restaurants will be offering their own Lunar New Year promotions. At Fashion Island, the fanciful Japanese confection house Minamoto Kitchoan is doling out its sweet-filled New Year Bags (from $35) at half the original price. Its elegantly wrapped mochi in flavors from chocolate to white peach are also on special: Purchase a dozen and receive a free bonus set.
Meanwhile, at Irvine Spectrum Center, delve into the culinary scene where kids’ meals are free with the purchase of an adult entrée at Corner Bakery and Ruby’s Diner. At Pieology, receive one free bambino pizza and beverage with the purchase of a regularly priced pizza or entrée.
