SANTA CLARA, Calif. (July 21, 2016) — The community is invited to experience Santa Clara’s newest shopping and dining destination Santa Clara Square Marketplace as Whole Foods Market, one of the center’s anchors, kicks off grand opening festivities Tuesday with a ribbon-cutting and bread-breaking ceremony.

The opening day celebration on July 26 will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will include:

  • 9:30 a.m.– Performance by the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps and photo opportunity with Whole Foods Market and Irvine Company leadership
  • 9:45 a.m.– Opening address by Santa Clara Mayor Lisa M. Gillmor and remarks by Whole Foods Market and Irvine Company leadership
  • 10 a.m.– Whole Food Market doors open
  • 10:15 a.m.– Media interview opportunities with Rob Twyman, regional president, Whole Foods Market; Eddie Ceballos, Store Team Leader, Melissa King, Top Chef Season 12 finalist and designer of Whole Foods Market Santa Clara Tap Room menu
  • 10:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.– Live remote broadcast by Mix 106.5 (KEZR-FM)
  • Noon-2:00 p.m.– Photo opportunity with a San Francisco 49ers Alumni Player, Gold Rush Cheerleaders and Mascot Sourdough Sam

Guests will be able to experience the new 50,000 square-foot Whole Foods Market store and enjoy its Tap Room, as well as a bounty of food stations serving sushi, ramen, bao, self-serve pizza, cakes and sweet petites. There will also be a coffee and smoothie bar, along with a vast selection of beer and wine and a specialty department of whole body natural makeup and body care products – and more.

Other retailers scheduled to open at Santa Clara Square Marketplace include: Il Fornaio restaurant, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, Sur La Table, Specialty’s Café & Bakery, Opa!, CorePower Yoga, Books Inc., Lula’s Chocolates, COMEBUY Drinks, Chase Bank and Eyexam.

Designed with walkability in mind, Santa Clara Square Marketplace will serve the planned residential and workplace communities at Santa Clara Square, a 100-acre master-planned community that brings together residential, office and retail in a sustainable live, work, play community just off the 101 Freeway at Bowers Avenue. When completed, this community will offer up to 1,800 apartment homes, 1.8 million square feet of Class A office space and up to 165,000 square feet of specialty retail.
