A new vision for Oak Creek Golf Club

Community-based master-planning effort underway to create Irvine’s largest nature park at privately owned Oak Creek Golf Club

Irvine, Calif. (January 16, 2026) — Last year, Irvine Company began inviting community members to provide feedback on a major expansion of the city of Irvine’s public park system, a proposed nature park that would replace much of the existing privately owned Oak Creek Golf Club. The new public park will link with and complete the Jeffrey Open Space Trail, providing park and trail connectivity across the entire city from Limestone Canyon Nature Preserve in the east to Quail Hill Nature Preserve in the west.

“Irvine has been master planned since its founding, with a focus on providing abundant open spaces, parks and trails for the community to enjoy. This planned Nature Park will significantly expand Irvine’s nationally ranked park system, with additional recreation opportunities in the center of Irvine,” said Jeff Davis, Senior Vice President, Irvine Company.

Through this community planning effort there is a unique opportunity to replace the Oak Creek Golf Club with more than 50 acres of open, natural park space in the heart of the city. Irvine Company is inviting the community’s feedback on what should be included in the nature park. Emerging priorities include: nature trails, creeks, streams, meadows and woodlands. A new nature center is also being considered to provide educational programming and community events. New bridges would also create continuous trails over existing barriers like train tracks and major roads.

The Nature Park will also anchor a balanced, lower-density village to be built on the remainder of the course and adjacent properties. This village plan helps to address the state-mandated housing requirements while also serving as an alternative to 100% higher-density housing currently allowed in the area under the city’s approved general plan.

“Since this community planning process began, hundreds of community members have joined our master-planning effort to provide their input on the amenities and contours of this new Nature Park. Irvine’s largest new nature park will truly be responsive to the recommendations the community has provided ” Davis said.

The company’s planning team, led by expert park planners Jenny Rigby and Sean O’Malley, will be incorporating the community’s feedback and ideas into final concepts and designs over the coming months. We continue to invite the community to engage with our planners in person or to respond to our online survey at irvineconnection.com/nature-park-study.
