TUSTIN, Calif. (September 12, 2016) — The Market Place is normally the quintessential epicenter of Orange County suburban shopping. But for four weeks this fall, the center will once again become home to one of the most intense and interactive haunted houses in the nation.
Back for a sequel to a wildly successful debut last year, The 17th Door will give guests the fright of their lives with a unique haunt experience when it opens its doors on Sept.23.
“It’s been exciting to see a local and family-run operation such as The 17th Door hold its own with the bigger SoCal haunt attractions like Knott’s Scary Farm and Dark Harbor at The Queen Mary,” said Easther Liu, chief marketing officer for Irvine Company Retail Properties. “The 17th Door will be the perfect Halloween excursion for scare enthusiasts in O.C. and beyond.”
For the more than 20,000 guests who came to The 17th Door last Halloween season, the creators have even more in store for 2016, including a dozen new rooms and a mini escape room. This year’s haunt will be larger and last more than 30 minutes, with more interactive features, monsters and scares.
“The storyline will continue where last year’s left off with Paula’s battle with her dark demons and her asylum residency,” said Heather Luther, co-creator of The 17th Door. “We will be diving even deeper into Paula’s twisted storyline.”
Guests must still sign a liability waiver to enter and the actors are allowed to grab guests. If at any point during the haunted house experience guests wish to leave, they may use the safe word, ”mercy” and will be escorted out of the haunted house.
Last year, an estimated 3,000 guests cried, “Mercy.”
“Naturally, we’re hoping to surpass that this year,” said Luther.
The 17th Door will once again occupy the 15,000-square foot space next to Party City, between Best Buy and Home Depot on the Tustin side of The Market Place.
